Writing a will

We know it’s all too easy to put off writing a Will – after all, no one wants to consider that they won’t be around forever. However, writing a Will is an important task, as it ensures your wishes are carried out after you’re gone.

You can write a Will any time after you hit the age of 18 – some wait until certain life events occur to make one, such as the birth of their first child, getting married or being diagnosed with an illness. However, we recommend writing your Will sooner rather than later; life is unpredictable, so it’s always a good idea to plan ahead. Wills can also be updated at any time – it’s best to review yours every five years or after any major life changes.

We understand that writing a Will can be a sensitive issue, which is why Adams provides a friendly, personal service. Everything you say to us will be in total confidence.

What we can do for you

Making a Will doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming; our service is both cost-effective and efficient. We will discuss your family, financial situation and how we can help you. Wills are extremely personal, so we know that each and every one is different. We can help you outline:

  • Who you want to benefit from your Will
  • What happens if the people you want to benefit die before you
  • Who should look after any children under 18
  • The executor of your Will

Some Wills are straightforward whereas others can be more complicated. You may find you need extra advice in the following situations:

  • You own a business
  • Your permanent home is outside the UK
  • You want to leave money or property to a dependent who cannot look after themselves
  • You have property overseas
  • You have several family members who may make a claim on your Will i.e. children from another marriage
  • You share a property with someone who you are not married to or have a civil partnership with
